NJP to Jaldapara car fare
Jaldapara National Park is in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal. Is known for the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Many travellers also come for the elephant and jeep safaris, the grasslands and the quiet forest lodges. The park is a popular stop on a Dooars trip.
There is no airport at Jaldapara. Most visitors land at Bagdogra Airport or reach New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station and continue by road. The main entrance of the park is at Madarihat, on the national highway. Most hotels and lodges are in this area.
A forest lodge, Hollong, is located inside the jungle. Takes 20 minutes by car beyond the main entry gate, according to a West Bengal travel guide.
This matters because "Jaldapara" is not a single address. A cab fare to Madarihat, to a resort on the highway and to Hollong Lodge may not be the same. One traveller review also mentions staying on the Salkumar side, which felt quieter than the Madarihat side.
Before you confirm a cab booking, tell the operator the exact name of your hotel or lodge. Ask whether the quote covers that drop point. This one step avoids most confusion later.
Distance and Travel Time from NJP and Bagdogra
Published distances vary quite a lot. A tourism guide gives about 125 km from NJP and about 137 km from Bagdogra Airport. Other pages give 133 km, 150 km or around 125 km depending on the route and the drop point.
| Starting point | Approx. distance (published figures) | Usual travel time |
|---|---|---|
| NJP railway station | About 110 to 125 km | About 3 hours |
| Bagdogra Airport | About 125 to 150 km | 3 to 3.5 hours |
| Hasimara railway station | About 11 km | About 15 minutes |
Some online map tools show a drive of under two hours. Local sources usually say about three hours or more. The travel time can change depending on traffic, road work, weather and how many stops you make. It is safer to plan for three to three and a half hours from NJP or Bagdogra.
If you want to join an early or afternoon safari, keep a buffer of at least an hour. Do not plan to reach the park gate at the last minute.
The Usual Route
One operator describes the road from Bagdogra as passing through Odlabari, Nagrakata, Hasimara and Madarihat. The drive goes through plains, small towns and tea gardens, and it is mostly on highways. Your driver may choose a different road based on traffic and road conditions on the day.
Bagdogra to Jaldapara taxi fare: What to Expect
There is no official fixed rate for a private cab to Jaldapara. Public pages show a very wide range, from about ₹2,100 to above ₹6,000. This happens because the pages mix different vehicles, drop points and trip types.
Here is what some public sources say:
- A booking website lists NJP to Jaldapara at ₹2,700 for a hatchback, ₹2,800 for a sedan and ₹4,200 for an SUV. It lists an Innova at about ₹5,200 and a 12-seat tempo traveller at ₹10,500.
- Another booking website shows Bagdogra to Jaldapara base fares starting around ₹2,545 to ₹2,954.
- A local operator lists Bagdogra to Jaldapara at ₹4,499 to ₹4,999 across three vehicle columns.
- One Dooars taxi page gives ₹3,500 to ₹4,200 in its question-and-answer section, but ₹4,999 to ₹5,499 in its table for the same route.
- Two local operators quote "onwards" prices of ₹5,290 from Bagdogra and ₹6,440 from NJP.
- A tourism guide, with fares updated in March 2022, lists ₹3,200 for a reserved small taxi from Bagdogra or NJP to Madarihat.
- One operator says NJP to Madarihat usually costs ₹2,100 to ₹3,199 one-way.
The lowest figures usually come from "starting from" prices and may not include every charge. Higher figures often cover larger vehicles, peak dates or full inclusions. Always ask for a fresh quote for your travel date.

- Pickup point: NJP, Bagdogra Airport or Siliguri.
- One-way or round trip: round trips may use a daily distance limit.

- Included services: tolls, parking, and waiting time may not be covered.
NJP to Jaldapara car fare by Vehicle Type
The table compares the main vehicle types for a one-way trip from NJP or Bagdogra Airport. It is based on published ranges and is not a confirmed price from any operator. Read the notes under the table before you choose.
| Vehicle type | Example cars | Seats | Estimated one-way fare (INR) | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hatchback | WagonR, Swift | 4 (3 adults are comfortable) | ₹2,700 – ₹4,500 | Solo travellers, couples, light luggage |
| Sedan | Dzire, Etios | 4 | ₹2,800 – ₹5,000 | Couples and small families, more boot space |
| SUV / MUV | Ertiga, Xylo, Innova | 6–7 | ₹4,200 – ₹5,500 (some operators quote ₹5,290 or more onwards) | Families, groups, safari trips with luggage |
These ranges were compiled in October 2026 from public pages of different dates, so prices can change at any time. The wide gap between low and high figures comes from the sources themselves. For a group of more than seven people, a tempo traveller is the usual option, and one booking site lists it at ₹10,500 from NJP.
Hatchback
A hatchback is usually the cheapest vehicle type. It works for one to three people with light bags. The route is mostly highway, so comfort is fine, but boot space is small.
Sedan Car
A sedan car gives a smoother ride and a separate boot. It suits couples and small families who are carrying a few bags. Since the drive takes about three hours, many travellers prefer the extra comfort.
SUV or MUV
SUVs and MUVs seat six or seven people and carry more luggage. They suit families, wildlife photographers with camera bags and groups travelling together. For five or more people, one SUV can cost less than two small cars.
What Does the Fare Include on the Bookings Cab?
Every operator has its own rules. Some say the price includes driver charges and night charges, while others list them separately. Ask about each item below before you confirm.
Driver Charges
Many one-way drop fares already cover driver charges. For a multi-day trip, the operator may add a daily allowance and ask about the driver's stay. Ask clearly whether the quote covers all of this.
Night Charge
Some operators add a night charge for early-morning or late-night pickups. This matters if your train reaches NJP very early, or if you plan to leave at dawn for a safari. Ask for the amount and the time window.
Toll Tax and Parking
Some operators include toll and parking, while others add them as per the receipt. The road you take also affects this. Do not assume they are covered. Ask for it in writing.
Waiting Charges and Extra Kilometres
A short tea or meal stop is usually fine. Longer waiting may be charged by the hour. If you use the same cab for local travel around Madarihat, ask for the daily kilometre limit and the extra-kilometre rate.
Costs That Are Not Part of the Cab Fare
The cab fare does not include safari tickets, jeep hire, guide fees or entry charges. Third-party pages give different figures for these, and some are old. For example, one older guide mentions ₹1,200 to ₹1,500 per jeep trip, depending on the route. Check the current rates on the official forest booking website before you plan your budget.
How to Avoid hidden charges for bagdogra to Jaldapara National Park Cab Fare
Hidden charges are usually costs that nobody explained. A clear, all-inclusive quote removes most of the worry. Many websites show a form that says "please enter trip details" before showing a price, so enter the same details everywhere to compare fairly.
- Is this an all-inclusive fare, or only the base fare?
- Where exactly will the cab drop me: Madarihat, my hotel, or Hollong?
- Are toll and parking included?
- Is there a night charge for my pickup time?
- How many minutes of waiting are free?
- What is the extra-kilometre rate?
- What happens if my train or flight is late?
- Is payment in advance needed, and how much?
- What is the cancellation policy?
Ask the operator to send the final fare by WhatsApp or SMS and keep the message. It makes any later disagreement easier to settle.
Park Season and Closure Dates
Jaldapara is not open all year. Tourism guides say the park stays closed from 16 June to 15 September, which is the monsoon and animal breeding season. An official-style guide repeats this closure window for 2026.
Most guides recommend October to March for the best weather and sightings. April and May are hotter, though still popular. We are now in the open season, so lodges and cabs can fill up early on weekends and holidays.
Always confirm the current opening status before you book a trip. A closed park changes the whole plan.
Safari Timing and Your Cab Plan
Your arrival time matters as much as the cab fare. Safaris run in fixed slots, and tickets are limited. Here is what the sources say, though some details are older, so check the official website before you travel.
- Jeep safaris and elephant safaris are both offered. A jeep takes up to six passengers.
- Safaris can be booked online through the West Bengal forest development website.
- One traveller says they had to reach the Madarihat office with original photo ID by 10 am for the afternoon jeep safari.
- An older guide says to start at least an hour before your slot to finish entry formalities.
- An older guide also says jeep safaris do not run on Thursdays. Check whether this is still true.
If you arrive at NJP in the morning, you may be able to reach Madarihat by afternoon. If your train comes in at night, book a cab for the next morning, or ask your operator about an early pickup and the night charge. Do not plan an afternoon safari after a very late arrival.
Taxi Booking from NJP Station
Many long-distance trains reach NJP in the early morning or late at night. Share your train number so the driver can track delays. Ask what happens to the fare if the train is very late.
A tourism guide mentions that a pre-paid taxi is available at the station, though prices there may differ from a pre-booked cab. If you prefer a fixed price, a taxi booking made in advance gives you time to compare. If you need a car in Siliguri before the trip, see our Siliguri car rental page.
Cab Booking from Bagdogra Airport
Bagdogra is the nearest airport, around 125 to 150 km from the park depending on the source. A tourism guide says to expect about three hours and fifteen minutes by taxi. Flights can be delayed, so share your flight number with the driver.
Airport pickups often come with a parking fee, which some operators include and some add. Ask when you confirm the quote.
Train and Last-Mile Options
Madarihat has a small railway station, but a tourism guide says very few trains stop there. Hasimara station, about 11 km from Jaldapara, has more trains. From Hasimara, a taxi to the park takes around 15 minutes.
If you plan to take a train part of the way, check the timetable carefully. Then arrange a local cab from the station. Ask your lodge whether they can arrange the pickup.
Return Trip and One-Way Options
The fare back from Jaldapara is not always the same as the inward fare. One operator warns that returning from Madarihat can be tricky, because drivers may ask for high fares. Booking both legs with the same operator can give clearer pricing.
If you want only a drop, you can book a one way cab. Check that the quote covers one way only, and ask whether the driver returns empty. Some booking sites also offer one-way multi-stop trips, which help if you plan to continue to another Dooars destination instead of coming back.
Combining Jaldapara with Other Dooars Stops
Many travellers combine Jaldapara with Gorumara, Lataguri or Buxa. A cab rental for the whole circuit can be cheaper than booking each leg separately. Ask for the kilometre limit and the driver's night halt policy.
Some travel companies sell a tour package that includes hotels, meals and safari booking. A cab-only plan is different, because you arrange the stay and safari yourself. If you want a bundled plan, ask your operator whether they offer one, or check our cab packages page for what is available.
Practical Tips for a Smooth Trip
- Check the park's opening status first. The closed season runs from mid-June to mid-September.
- Book your safari and stay before the cab. Safari slots and lodges fill up early.
- Share your train or flight number. The driver can then plan for delays.
- Carry original photo ID. It is needed for safari tickets.
- Carry water, snacks and sunscreen. Safaris can be long and hot in late winter and summer.
- Dress in muted colours. Bright colours are not ideal for wildlife viewing.
- Keep some cash. Small shops near the park may not accept digital payments.
- Save your driver's number. You will need it for pickup and return.
How to Book a Cab for Jaldapara
